It's all gone to shit

Nano nano

Note to Alina Cohen:

You tell me that my contribution to Frontiers in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology is of great importance to you. But that's because you don't know me. You obtained my contact details from wherever the hell.

In all seriousness, everything that I know of nanoscience and nanotechnology could be written on a nano thing. The only possible value that I could contribute to your esteemed journal would be the publication fee. And, since your journal is keen to establish high standards, I know that my money alone is not enough.

Still, at least I now know that nanospintronics is a thing. So it's not all been for naught.

Wish you a very Happy New Year!!! Frontiers in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology is an open access journal, which publishes articles related to Nanophotonics, Optoelectronics, Nanoelectronics, Nanospintronics, Nanomagnetism, Nano-electromechanical systems, Quantum information, Nanomechanics, Nanobiotechnology, Nanomedicine, Nanotoxicology, and Nanomaterials for energy related applications. Your contribution is of great importance to us and it will help the Journal to establish high standards. The articles can be in the form of Research articles, Reviews article, Short communications, Letters to the editor, Article-commentaries, summaries, Conference proceedings, Meeting-reports, Editorial, or image article. We believe your contribution will enhance the worth of the issue and aid in fulfilling the goal of the upcoming issue. I'm uncertain as to whether Dr Federica Valentini's approaching me on behalf of Frontiersin [sic] Nanoscience and Nanotechnology or Journal of Frontiers in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. But, given the editor's email address, I'm going out on a limb to say that it's neither, and that Alina Cohen's passed on the reigns to Frontiers in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Either way, this particular webcomic sports an impact factor of 1.2*—I have no idea what the asterisk means—which seems mighty impressive…for a webcomic.

Freddie and her idiot colleagues seem to have no clue as to what their field of interest encompasses though. I shall seek enlightenment, but shall temper my expectations at the same time.

Her message has a CET timestamp in the Date header, but an IST one in the Received header. Email messages have at least one or the other, and sometimes both. When both are present, the Received headers are more trustworthy, and the last represents the sender's time zone, or at least that of the mail server. In this case, therefore, I'm going to assume that Freddie's not in the same time zone as me, if she is, she's an insomniac.

Given the impersonal nature of her greeting, especially since she cited a previous publication of mine, I should've opened this with Dear Editor-in-Chief, but I'm above that. Sometimes.

Dear Dr Valentini, Thank you for your kind invitation to publish my work in your journal. As a matter of clarification, could you please explain what it was about my work entitled “[completely irrelevant to the field of nanoanything!]” that made you think that my work was relevant to the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology? Thank you in advance for your anticipated reply. Sincerely,
