A tragic tale enfolded in San Antonio, TX, as the bodies of at least 53 migrants were discovered in a lorry trailer. They had travelled from Latin America, and illegally entered the US in the container in which they were found. When the air-conditioning failed, and without ventilation, they perished as temperatures reached 40°C.
While the authorities and media express anger at the deaths of so many under such terrible conditions, none seem to openly recognise that the victims played their own part in their tragedy. They were willingly engaged in an illegal undertaking.
Yes, they were taken advantage of by naughty people. And yes, they were seeking a better life for themselves and their families. But they were, nonetheless, trying to skirt the rules of the country that they were entering.
So, yeah, if you don't want to die at the hands of vultures, don't put yourself in the hands of vultures. Innit?
