And it's come to this

Clarity for morons

I've just received a request for clarification from someone at work who clearly didn't read the originating request thoroughly, otherwise she wouldn't have needed clarification. I hate spoon-feeding morons who're paid enough, but are too lazy to do their job properly. (grumpy)

Of course, Maria Joseph's invitation was sent to a distribution list using a bulk mail template, hence it makes no sense and is completely irrelevant to me. Nevertheless, I shall request clarification. Under the circumstances, however, I feel that my request is justified. And, unlike workmoron's, it's unlikely to gain an intelligible response.

Now, where's that fucking spoon?

Dear Maria Joseph Thank you for your valuable invitation to publish in your esteemed journal. Just so that I can properly forumlate a submission that will be of value to your readership, could you please confirm which of my research articles you believe are most relevant to students and researchers in the field of family medicine? I look forward to your enlightening reply. Sincerely,

Four issues on, and the only things that have changed since her last request are the date for submission and removal of formatting in the template. Clearly Maria Joseph doesn't care too much about drawing the reader's attention to her missive.

Ah well, in for a penny, in for a pound.

Okay, so Maria replied this time. I'm supposed to write about something that I know little about and which appears barely relevant to the scope of the journal. Seems reasonable. But I think we need to establish the basis for my work-for-hire.

Oh, and just out of interest: her mail server seems to have moved five-and-a-half hours to the right. (confused)

Thank you for the email. I suggest you to write on Germ cells and reproduction for possible publication in the journal. We believe your work attracts new readers to the journal. Beside this, the journal covers all areas of family medicine. I am looking forward to your response. Dear Maria Joseph, Thank you for your reply. I assume that the work to be undertaken will be as a work-for-hire. In which case, I would be grateful if you could give me the basis for calculating the cost (e.g. hourly rate or fixed price), and a copy of your standard contract for review. Thank you, and best wishes,
