Newsflash to Sarah Jones: There's no such thing as the perfect cup of coffee. I only drink the filthy stuff when I need a jolt. And then it's solely for its pharmacological effects, not its organoleptic characteristics.

But her opening line did amuse me. Putting the good morning greeting at the end as an exclamation makes it sound like one of those old-timey, stuffed-shirt retorts:

• …And a good day to you, sir!
• [Turns on heel. Leaves.]

Anyhow, that minor amusement aside, the remainder of Ms Jones' missive reminded me of the origin of the phrase English like what it is spoke, or English as she is spoke:

O novo guia da conversação em portuguez e inglez, commonly known by the name English as She Is Spoke, is a 19th-century book written by Pedro Carolino, with some editions crediting José da Fonseca as a co-author. It was intended as a Portuguese–English conversational guide or phrase book. However, because the "English" translations provided are usually inaccurate or incoherent, it is regarded as a classic source of unintentional humour in translation.

Both O Novo Guia da Conversação, em Portuguez e Inglez and Monty Python's Dirty Hungarian Phrasebook are dishonourable predecessors to whatever it is that Jones is using here. (SMH)
