What's that smell?

No noose is good news

US President Biden signing the Act Reuters
Low-hanging fruit: Hey! This isn't the mall!

US President 'Pa has signed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, thus making an act that hasn't occurred in decades a federal hate crime, punishable by up to 30 years' imprisonment. For what is also murder, punishable by up to life imprisonment or death. Think about it.

Finally, African-Americans can feel safe on the streets. As long as they don't get shot, that is: most likely by one of their fellow black citizens, while they too are out enjoying their own new-found freedom.*

Humbled that the country's Grandpa-in-Chief has devoted his precious few lucid moments to such a pressing concern for today's African-Americans, Jericho Green has his own thoughts on the dangers of trees. Or anything else that could pose a risk of noose time.

He signed it into law. It is now a federal crime to hang another human being from a tree. Thank you, sir! Finally, black people, come out of hiding. Do you guys know how much of a problem lynching is for black people in today's age? It's running rampant. I don't even put a Christmas tree in my house, because I'm scared somebody might come in, and lynch me between the ornaments. When I first moved into our new house, we cut down all of our trees. I paid my neighbors to cut down their trees, just in case. I don't even go outside on Arbor Day; that's how much of a problem it is for black folks. Huh tree! Hah, oh. Oh shit, another tree! You guys see all these trees I'm passing by in the background? This shit is traumatizing, I'm triggered. Do you know how much we hate trees? I don't even like to be around a really tall person if they stick their arm out straight. You never know, some evil w-w-white person might get the itch.

Jericho Green, Biden signs anti lynching bill into law! Oh happy day black folks! Priorities!

He then follows up with: Don't worry, it's only about 68 years too fucking late. (LMAO)

Still, at least it got 'Pa out of the house for a nice little photo-op, before his next diaper change and nap time.

* According to FBI compiled data for 2019, there were 2,906 single-victim/single-offender homicides in which the decedent was Black or African American. In 2,574 (89%) of those cases, the perpetrator was also Black or African American.

Lynching is not specifically called out among the collated statistical data.

Green refers to the murder of Michael Donald, in 1981, as the last occurrence of a lynching in the US. This is not the case, unfortunately. In 1998, James Byrd Jr was lynched by three men in Jasper, TX; I remember reading about it at the time, it was horrific. Two of the assailants were executed, and the third sentenced to life imprisonment. Fortunately for them, they were only charged with murder, and weren't also charged with lynching as a federal hate crime. Otherwise, they'd've been in real trouble.
