This is my truth

Hey Joe

The remaining members of CSNY have joined Neil Young in removing their music from Spotify. This is since Spotify has instituted misinformation warnings, and Joe Rogan has undertaken to be more balanced in future.

I'm really not sure what difference it will make, other than giving them that old-timey Vietnam vibe. Peace out guys. (peace)

While only longtime Young and Bruce Springsteen guitarist Nils Lofgren has joined their stance, many musicians have said that they would like to remove their music from the streaming giant — the world’s largest paid music-subscription service — but either can’t legally do so, since their music is actually owned by record labels, or cannot afford to.

Jem Aswad, David Crosby and Stephen Stills Ask to Remove Their Music From Spotify — Including Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Albums, Variety

Which is the same as bugger all, really.

Reality check: storm in a teacup

Joe Rogan has 11M listeners per weekly episode. The old-timers have the following monthly listeners: Neil Young, 5.7M; Joni Mitchell, 3.7M; CSNY, 2.8M; CSN, 2.6M; Graham Nash: 537K; Stephen Stills: 434K; David Crosby: 288K. Plus assorted lesser duos and other collaborations.

To put this in context, by the end of 2021, Spotify had 406M users and 108M subscribers. All of which suggests that the vast majority of its listeners have no interest in either a talking heads podcast or fading hippies. Assuming that the hippies' audiences are largely drawn the same subset of users; Rogan's audience is repeat listeners; and that there's no overlap between the two, then 96% of Spotify users aren't going to give a shit either way.

Disclaimer: I have a family subscription. Although I don't use Spotify myself, if I were to take it up, I'd count myself amongst the 96%.

And, now, CSN are back. Did anyone notice?
