I think I've pissed myself

Can you see his lips move?

As the parliamentary Conservatives gather around to choose their new leader, the Labour Party leadership has called for a vote of no confidence in the prime minister. Which is rather like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. That vote was taken last week, when the government's ministers and underlings saw the writing on the wall, and collectively soiled themselves.

Downing Street said it would allow time for a vote of no confidence in the government, but not the prime minister. A spokesman said the PM had already said he would quit and a vote would not be a "valuable use" of MPs' time. But Labour accused ministers of "running scared".

Personally, I don't think that not wasting time on what is already a done deal is any more running scared than it is pragmatic. Then again, I'm not in the business of politics and talking bollocks.

Earlier on Tuesday, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said he wanted a vote to prevent Mr Johnson "clinging on for a few months" after his own MPs forced him to announce his resignation. "We have put down a vote of no confidence, and challenged any Tory MP who in the last few days has said - 'I can't serve Boris Johnson because you can't trust a word the man says'.

But you can trust the word of an ex-lawyer-cum-politician who cannot, or will not, define woman. Is that it? (thinking)
