God's right hand
On the death of Diego Maradona, huge crowds in Argentina are in mourning.
Being unenthusiastic about football, his only achievement that I recall was defeating England in the 1986 World Cup quarter-finals with the hand of god
. God must be okay with cheating. Then again, according to the Roman Catholic Church, god seems to be okay with a lot worse than that!
Maradona was just a footballer on his way to becoming a coke-head. But the fact that his goal was allowed when clearly a foul, albeit presumably accidental, doesn't reflect well on the running of the event.
Anyway, I'll always remember him for British DJ Steve Wright's skit with one of his regular phone-in characters, Reg:
