Most of it's boring

It pays to be in India

It's almost refreshing to have an Indian predatory publisher who's not pretending to be based in the US, or anywhere else that's not India. So, I'll give Arun Azad of Pushpa Pulishing [sic] House kudos for that, at least.

And the inauguration of Advances and Applications in Biological Sciences is being celebrated in fine style, with a time-limited offer of 50% reduction in publishing charges. For foreigners paying in USD, that is. Presumably, Indian researchers will still have to stump up the full ₹2000. But screw them, since that amounts to about $25 at the current rate of exchange.

Advances and Applications in Biological Sciences (Open-Access Journal) http://www.pphmj.com/journals/aabs.htm The Pushpa Publishing House has decided to launch the above-mentioned open-access international journal named “Advances and Applications in Biological Sciences" with effect from 2022. It is our pleasure to request you to consider submitting an original research articles, reviews and short reports related to any aspect of current trend of Biological Sciences on a topic of your interest for possible publication in our peer reviewed journal, AABS for Volume 1, 2022. [snip] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Article Processing Charges (APC): An open-access journal provides wide range of accessibility to published articles and thus is beneficial to the contributors. However, on account of no subscriptions, etc., the journal suffers financially. To meet the publication standard, peer-review is necessary which requires a lot of correspondences. Also, proper composing and proof-reading costs are to be met. Maintenance of an efficient office is to be afforded. Therefore, we have the Article Processing Charge (APC) for an accepted paper. To defray the publication cost, authors are requested to arrange APC of their accepted papers at the rate of US $200.00 per article. However, for authors in India this charge is IN ₹2000.00 per article. Offer on Article Processing Charges (APC): The Pushpa Publishing House will charge only US$ 100.00 per article as APC for all submitted articles received till June 30, 2022 in the AABS. In that case, we shall provide a soft copy of the published article to the corresponding author. Print sets of reprints may be ordered at the time of proofs correction. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We shall be grateful if you encourage us by submitting your valuable article(s) for the forthcoming issues and also promote our journal amongst your colleagues and fellow-workers. Expecting to have a favourable response and with kind regards, Yours sincerely Arun Azad General Manager Pushpa Publishing House Vijaya Niwas, 198, Mumfordganj Prayagraj-211002, INDIA www.pphmj.com arun@pphmj.com

Out of the kindness of my heart, I thought I'd offer General Manager a little perspective:

At the current exchange rate, ₹2000.00 is $25.76, which means that you expect foreigners to subsidise Indian researchers sodomising the scientific record with their garbage-level 'science'. Fortunately, you publish to PDF, so at least no trees are wasted.

General Manager, AKA Arun Azad, returns on behalf of International Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics as well as Advances and Applications in Biological Sciences. And this time, he's not making the same mistake as before; he's omitted the charges for Indian researchers, presumably they get their own tailored begging letter.

So, I referred to PPH's website:

Dear Arun Azad Thank you for yet another opportunity to subsidise Indian researchers' publications with your “special offer”. I note that this time you have removed the notice that your compatriots pay the equivalent of less than $25, but it's still there on your website. http://www.pphmj.com/journals/ijnd_author_information.htm You must think we're all stupid. Sincerely,
