Will this madness never end?

Disney Minus

Reviews of Disney's live action remake of Mulan have been generally mixed to favourable. I like the story, and I was looking forward to this release. But…hnnng, I can't.

Recent calls to boycott the film have centred, at least in part, on lead actress Liu Yifei's support of China over its Hong Kong security law, and Disney's kowtowing to Chinese authorities that are responsible for the re-education of ethnic Uighur muslims. For what it's worth, not much I know, I support Hong Kong's fight for democracy, and I oppose genocide. I realise that Disney isn't going to miss my money compared to sucking up to Pooh Bear and his cronies, but it makes me feel better not to tacitly support them.

I'm glad now that we allowed our Disney+ subscription to lapse. It won't be renewed.

But what do I do about the upcoming Gardians of the Galaxy 3 and Black Widow?

Although meant in jest, Ryan George's pitch meeting exposes a number of whoopsies in the film that completely destroy it. Their fault, not his.

Perhaps it's better to just let it lie after all.

The credits to Mulan thank several government agencies in Xinjiang province.

The public security bureau in Turpan is tasked with running China's "re-education" camps where Uighurs are held in detention, China expert Adrian Zenz told the BBC. The "publicity department" named by Disney is responsible for producing state propaganda in the region, he adds.

Zenz described TWDC as an international corporation profiteering in the shadow of concentration camps. And, given its relationship with these Chinese government agencies, Disney may be profiting from, if not indirecty complicit in, genocide. Damned scumbags. (furious)
