And, speaking of isolation, meeting others in pubs is to be banned in the north east of England. Which rather defeats the object of going to the pub in the first place.

Unsurprisingly, the new ban will be enforced with fines of up to £6,400 for repeat offenders.

Who couldn't see that coming? A cynic might think that the UK government was introducing stringent fines, as much to generate revenue for the Chancellor of the Exchequer's throw-away schemes, as to keep the inmates of HMP GB in check.
