Fear and loathing in Zhengzhou

A recent breakout by Foxconn workers desperate to avoid lockdown was, apparently, driven by fear, panic and ignorance. And, to give us an idea of the level of ignorance involved:

This young factory worker heard that the army was going to come in and take control so as to enforce a type of giant "living with Covid" experiment which involved allowing everyone in that part of Zhengzhou city to get sick. According to these rumours, the plan was to see how many of them would die. Then, if the carnage wasn't too bad, this would provide a guide as to whether the rest of China could open up or not.

I realise that the Chinese government doesn't place a high value on the lives of individuals. Nevertheless, it's just as well I had nothing in my mouth when I read that; otherwise, I'd be clearing it off my screen. (LMAO)

Thanks to their government's disinformation programme, many Chinese are convinced that contracting the WuFlu is a forgone death sentence, rather than a few days sick at home. Still, it's no worse that some of the batshit conspiracies dreamt up by fevered minds in the west, I suppose.
