Apples 'n' pears: logo wars

The couple behind Prepear, a recipe and meal planning app, are preparing to do legal battle with the mighty Apple Corporation. And all because they want to use a pear as their logo.

In its filing with the US patent and trademark office, the firm says the Monsons' pear logo "consists of a minimalistic fruit design with a right-angled leaf, which readily calls to mind Apple's famous Apple Logo and creates a similar commercial impression, as shown in the following side-by-side comparison". … Ms Monson said the comparison took them by surprise. The shape of the pear and leaf, which they worked on with a designer, was supposed to allude to the letter "P" in the app's name, she said.

Prepear and Apple logos

Apparently, Apple claimed that the image was too similar to its own logo and would hurt its brand.

Apple products are not cheap, the brand is well-known and recognised. How stupid do they think people really are? And if they're as stupid as Apple seems to think they are, how can they hold down sufficiently well-paying jobs to afford their products in the first place?

I like Apple products, kinda, and have owned many. But the company's bullying tactics sicken me. Every time they get into something like this it tarnishes their reputation just that little bit more.
