Changing of the guard: a new hope
As James Gunn and Peter Safran put together a roadmap for the DCEU, rumours of major changes are circulating in the mainstream and social media. As someone who appreciated Zac Snyder's darker and grittier approach to the genre—especially in comparison to the tired old MCU jokefest—it all sounds a little ominous.
Despite his return as Superman being teased at the end of Black Adam, Henry Cavill will no longer reprise the role. The character isn't one that I'm particularly fond of, but his more complex and darker take was a vast improvement over Christopher Reeves' bloody boy scout.
Patty Jenkins' treatment for a third Wonder Woman film was not well received by the studio, resulting in her departure. After the travesty that was Wonder Woman 1984, that's a blessed relief. I'm only surprised it got this far. But it could mean the end of Gal Gadot's run as the character, which would be a shame. Having said that, WW84 really shat the bed, so perhaps the trilogy's a lost cause.
Among all this changing of the guard, however, there is one bright hope that comes to my mind, and that's the end to Margot Robbie's frikkin' insufferable Harley Quinn. If she remains while so much good goes, I'm out too.
