Deep-fried anything: turning adversity into opportunity

On the death of Ali Ahmed Aslam, the Glaswegian chef credited with having created chicken tikka masala in the '70s, it comes to light that a motion calling for the dish to be recognised as a Glaswegian delicacy was tabled in the House of Commons.

Mr Ali created the dish when a customer returned their chicken tikka because it was too dry; sounds like it was overcooked. Still, every cloud has a silver lining, I guess.

I have no idea whether or not the motion was successful. But chicken tikka masala is a more fitting candidate for a city's delicacy than deep-fried Mars bars. (pipe)
