Spy way

court sketch of Diana Toebbe showing what appears to be brown hair with grey
According to BBC News' caption, Mrs Toebbe has purple hair. According to the sketch artist, she doesn't.

An investigation as to why a middle-class, suburban US couple turned to spying against their country, revealed that Mrs Diana Toebbe has purple hair. Not that this was the cause of their spying, I hasten to add.

If blending in is a desirable trait for a spy, she did not fit the bill - she had bright purple hair that made her easily recognisable, a neighbour said. "She was supposed to be a spy, and not stand out."

Tara McKelvey, BBC News

We have this mental picture of spies as furtive characters. But, perhaps hiding in plain sight could be just as effective, if done properly: she couldn't be a spy, she has purple hair!

Unfortunately for Diana, she married a completely inept knucklehead, who didn't dye his hair and was consequently apprehended by the FBI.
