Will this madness never end?

Doesn't add up

I'm not sure whether the BBC's Australian correspondent, Tiffanie Turnbull, has a problem with the English language or mathematics. Updating a story on a recent fatal ambush shooting of police officers at a remote property in Queensland, she seems to have difficulty in either differentiating between shots sustained and fatalities, or the seemingly complex sum of 2+1=?

Firstly, she states that two officers were shot, along with an innocent civilian. These victims all perished.

Nathaniel and Gareth Train, along with Gareth's wife Stacey, were killed by police on Monday after they shot two police officers and a neighbour.

But, further down, she contradicts herself because a third officer was shot and survived the ordeal.

Two constables - Matthew Arnold and Rachel McCrow - were killed. They were hit immediately then shot again "execution-style", the Queensland Police Union head claims. A third officer was shot and injured, but escaped, and the fourth faced an hours-long ordeal as the suspects attempted to hunt her down, lighting fires to try and flush her out.

Therefore, three officers were shot, Tiffanie. Two were shot and killed, one was shot and wounded. Perhaps getting facts straight, clear communication, and adding things up should be taught as additional modules in journalism school, alongside whatever it is they do teach: copy/pasting and fiddling expense claims, presumably.

I know, I know. What an arse I am! (proud)
