An artist's view
Astronomers have discovered the smallest planet as yet identified beyond our solar system.
Kepler 37b is little bigger than our moon, and orbits its host star in around 13 days. It was discovered by astronomers using the Kepler space telescope and a technique known as astroseismology
- effectively, turning tiny variations in the star's light into sounds.
So they didn't see the planet, so much as hear it.
Which makes the artist's impression a greater flight of fancy than most. And about as useful.
