What's that smell?

It's a complete mystery (SMH)

Tragedy struck East London, South Africa, when 21 teenagers inexplicably died at the Enyobeni Tavern. The youths were aged between 13 and 17, when the minimum drinking age in South Africa is 18.

It is not clear why there were so many young people there on Saturday night. The owner has been quoted in local media as saying they had come to celebrate the end of school exams, having gone there after a "pens down" party ended elsewhere. A birthday party was also being held at the tavern.

Only two bouncers were present to control the crowd trying to enter the venue. Yet it appears that the true explanation may have already been given only six paragraphs earlier:

"The venue was packed. Entrance was free... and free alcohol was also being dished out. We started drinking and having fun with others," a 16-year-old girl who did not want to be named told the BBC.

No shit! Free entrance; free alcohol; ineffective door management; and no apparent age checks, and yet it's unclear why there were so many young people present? Oh lordy. (slaphead)
