Everyday thoughts, but not every day

Open Access Text claims to be a publishing house based in the UK.

This Web Site is provided by Open Access Text Pvt. Ltd., a company incorporated under the Companies Act 2006 as a private company, and the situation of its registered office is in England and Wales, having its registered office at Suite A, 36-40 Copperfield Road, Mile End, London, E3 4RR, UK and shall be used for informational purposes only.

Open Access contact detailsStrangely enough, the registered address on their contact page, and at Companies House, is different: Office Gold, Building 3 Chiswick Park, 566 Chiswick High Road, London, W4 5YA. Curious! (thinking)

According to the record held at Companies House, the registered company name is actually Open Access Text Ltd. Two previous companies registered to this addess, Open Access Text and Open Access Text Global Ltd, have been dissolved.

On his blog, Flaky Academic Journals, Prof. D.A. Kaye suggests that the company is actually based in India. And he raises a number of points to support his case. I'll add one more, albeit arguably circumstantial: private limited companies are designated limited or Ltd in the UK, but as Pvt. Ltd in India.

One might surmise that Open Access Text Pvt. Ltd has registered Open Access Text Ltd in the UK, but overlooked the difference in registration designation on the website. Old habits die hard!

New logo! And a message to Open Access Text Pvt. Ltd…(middlefinger)

Open Access Text Pvt. Ltd is a skeevy, predatory publisher that's forced itself into my mailbox on many occasions, always uninvited and unwanted. So, this was like a red rag to a bull. Challenge accepted!

Spammers and scammers are pondlife. They have no rights that might be ascribed to us higher life forms. They are worthy only of scorn and derision. (pipe)

So I designed a new logo for them. I hope they like it.

And now, on to the missive that sparked this post. John McCullum shows a casual disdain for both the English language and clear communication. Obviously, making himself understood is not a concern, so I can quite well believe that he's based in either the East End of London or Romford. I can equally well believe that he had to retire from his career as a prize fighter, after repeated blows to the head.

What is more interesting is that John doubles-down on tracking his victims: both a hidden image tag; and a confirm-live unsubscribe link, albeit outside the closing HTML tag (snigger). Belt and braces. He may be unable to construct a coherent sentence, but at least he's careful.

I've only removed the tokens from the locators, which are presumably specific to me.
