Everyday thoughts, but not every day

Keep an idiot hanging on

Michael J seems to have taken on Maha D's role as whipper-in for Global Journal of Fertility and Research. Consequently, he's sending me a frequent follow-up, apparently because I never responded to several previous contacts.

My first instinct was to reply with a suitably snotty riposte—along the lines of asking why, if I haven't responded before, does he consider further shitting into my inbox to be a courtesy. Surely the courtesy would be to take the hint and stop contacting me? Of course, it's because this isn't a personal message, it's a template spewed out to a distribution list. And there haven't been previous attempts to contact me, that's just part of the ruse, although the point of it's lost on me.

Then, I thought, if he's expecting an acknowledgment,* the best course of action is to do nothing but delete his message. Tee hee.

This is a frequent follow-up for the below invitation. We tried contacting you several times, but since you never responded, we'd like to do so once more as a courtesy. For the new edition, we are missing one article. Can you help us out by contributing an article to this issue of the Global Journal of Fertility and Research (ISSN: 2640-7884) by July 15th, 2022, at the latest? Please provide a 2-page opinion, mini-review, or case study if you have a short notice. We believe a 2-page piece won't take too much time for someone of your calibre. We are sure that you will always be there to help us. The acknowledgement of this invitation is requested. * Yes, I know, it's a template. He's not expecting a response from me specifically, just anyone at all.

International Journal of Immunotherapy and Cancer Research

With an email template and distribution list, this is not unlike telephone sales. Possibly with less thought gone into it, because there's no threat of having your prey immediately question you on the spot.

According to Michael, a two-page article is short work for someone of my calibre. So much so, that Global Journal of Fertility and Research; Global Journal of Obesity, Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome; and International Journal of Immunotherapy and Cancer Research all want a piece of the action.

Like his predecessor, Michael sees nothing wrong in mail bombing. These missives landed in my inbox at 14:48, 14:57, and 15:28, so within a period of forty minutes. Still, at least the bloody slave driver's given me ten days to comply with his invitations, so that's something.

All of these messages were opened in view source mode, so that the tracking images weren't rendered. (thumbup)

International Journal of Oral and Craniofacial Science

At least Michael's given me a week to get those three two-page articles written, before pestering me on behalf of International Journal of Oral and Craniofacial Science. I feel that shows some degree of professional respect.

Unfortunately, Peertechz Publications' mail tracking uses a single token, which I presume combines both the campaign template and recipient. It means that I can't track the template itself, but it's clear that he's using one.

I did, however, take the opportunity to compare the tracker token with that from the previous message. Surprisingly, they only differ by a short, five-character sequence. Presumably, this differentiates the templates. Presumably, also, some of the remainder differentiates me from the other recipients.

Two more, otherwise identical, missives on behalf of Open Journal of Trauma (ISSN: 2640-7949) and Open Journal of Pain Medicine (ISSN: 2640-8104) arrived within a space of four minutes of each other. Michael's really cranking that handle!

Comparing the tracker tokens with today's previous messages, reveals the differentation due to campaign template to be at least six-characters long.

Michael J's back, with another missive on behalf of Journal of Vaccines and Immunology. Once again, they're missing just one article; they've contacted me several times, but this once more as a courtesy; they accept specific types, but also all types, of articles; they're sure that I'll always be here to help them; and acknowledgment of his unwanted invitation is requested.

At least this has given me the opportunity to further examine the tracking token. The additional differences to the previous tokens probably reflect the new campaign cycle.

The little shit's trying my patience now. So I acknowledged his message, while at the same time unsubscribing in the most satisfying way possible.

Where is the courtesy in repeated begging emails? And why do you assume that I would always be there to help a garbage predatory comic? I’d like to turn you into a trauma victim. You cunt.

I've received missives before from Anvi Nicker, but never paid them any heed. Journal of Vaccines and Immunology rang a bell though; and no wonder, since Michael J spammed me only last week on its behalf. In the intervening six days, its impact factor has rocketed by 0.36, which is certainly an achievement, if only one of imagination and creative accounting.

The highlighted section is the part of the token that differs from Michael J's of 06.09.2022 ~bmlnZWwubW9vcmVAdWJycy5jaH4xNjYyOTg0NTI3fjM2MTI5XzQ1OTA1fjIwMjIwOX5U~

I simply had to offer my congratulations!

Bloody hell, Anvi, Journal of Vaccines and Immunology is sky-rocketing! When your colleague, Michael J, spammed me just last week the impact factor was only 2.30, and now it's 2.66! Anyone would think that a bunch of skeevy Indians were pulling these numbers out of their arses to give their garbage ‘journals’ a credibility that they so richly don't deserve.

Anvi Nicker must be Michael J's protégé, because she's peddling the same comics. This time, it's our old friend Open Journal of Trauma.

And, once again, the comic's impact factor has increased substantially from Michael's curatorship. Anvi's quite the achiever. Either that, or her predecessor was a slacker.

Differences in the token from Michael J's last missive for OJT, on 07.09.2022:

~bmlnZWwubW9vcmVAdWJycy5jaH4xNjYzMDAwOTA3fjM2MTI5XzQ1OTA1fjIwMjIwOX5U~

Differences in the token from Anvi's earlier message, today:

~bmlnZWwubW9vcmVAdWJycy5jaH4xNjYzMDAwOTA3fjM2MTI5XzQ1OTA1fjIwMjIwOX5U~
And you've done it again, Anvi! In less than a week, you've increased the impact factor of one of Michael J's comics from 2.34 to 2.87. You must have a much bigger arse than him, from which to pluck such numbers. Have you considered a career in prostitution? Or are you moving on from that?
