BBC headline: French car-burning returns for New Years' Eve
The BBC's headline. I really didn't know what to make of it at first.

After the 2020/2021 New Year celebrations were banned in France, in response to the pandemic, the French have returned to celebrating the dawning of 2022 with their traditional Gallic flair. Or should that be flare? (shock)

Since 2005, car burning has become an annual suburban event. This year, 874 cars met a fiery end. Presumably, the celebrators are torching other people's cars, not their own.

What a bloody marvellous country France is.*
