Slurred speech
When further seasons of The Acolyte were shitcanned after the first's less than enthusiastic reception by the audience, or lack thereof, a small number of totally unhinged Disney Star Wars shills went postal on three TouTubers who criticised its creative merits, or lack thereof. It's a social media thing—specifically arse hats on X—so best not to think about it too much.
Anyhow, our friend It'sAGundam sought to explain the hoo-ha, and in so doing brought the following tweet
Just today Geeks & Gamers had a stream that contained the implied sexual assault of women as a joke, multiple uses of the R slur, gay uses as an insult, casual transphobia, and the use of “fig” as a proxy for the F slur.
There's a bewildering number of slurs these days, isn't there? And there's always someone to be triggered. I guess there are just too many thin-skinned, entitled snowflakes out on social media, whinging, trying to police thought and speech, when they'd be better off finding a safe space and shutting the fuck up. Or just going outside and touching grass.
But the slurs themselves go unnamed, so as not to offend any passing pearl-clutchers who'd otherwise have to reach for the smelling salts. Instead, they're substituted with vague proxies.
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the R slur
in Jarod's mithering means retard
or its adjectival form. I'm also guessing from fig
being used as a stand-in for the F slur
that the F-slur
in question was fag
, not fat
.
Frankly, I think it's all totally F-word
G-slur
and R-slur
.
It took me several re-reads of gay uses as an insult
to realise that he probably meant gay used as an insult
—third sense—because gay uses
makes no sense in context. In which case, I don't understand why he didn't just refer to the G-slur
to protect the twinks' fee-fees or ghey
like normal people. (shrug)
