Remarkable innovations
(Open Access Text)

Open Access Text logo, modified to goatse
The home of [cough] world-class biomedical research publications.

The remarkable innovations being made in the field of biomedical research are quite the thing at gOATse, for both Brianne Miller and Christine Davies shat into my inbox within the space of a couple of minutes! Their templates are nigh on identical, although their From and Reply-To headers are unique.

The ladies are unironically soliciting for manuscripts that meet the general criteria of significance and scientific excellence, on behalf of two different but confusingly similar webcomic titles that don't: Biomedical Research and Reviews, and Biomedical Research and Clinical Practice, respectively. But what should I do if I want to submit a review of clinical practice? Decisions, decisions. (thinking)

Christine may've beaten her to the punch earlier, but Brianne's not going to let that hold her back. She's not going down without a fight. And that's just how I like my hoes, strong-willed and playful.

But I have no idea why publishing my work in a garbage webcomic will endorse it. It'll likely gather no discernable or valuable traction when buried among all the other electronic detritus there.

Interdisciplinary Journal of Chemistry

I'm not sure how a chemistry webcomic can be interdisciplinary; chemistry is one discipline with several subdisciplines (bio-, nano-, nuclear- etc.). At least I think so. But I'm not a chemist, so what the hell do I know? Besides, I'm probably overthinking the shit churned out at gOATse.

Anyhow, Brianne Miller didn't enlighten me on the value of her esteemed comic's endorsement. Perhaps Robert Rey will be more forthcoming.

A new ho peddling a new comic: Gemma Hull with OAT's Trends in Medicine. Predictably, she cites my most recent publication…published all of four years ago. This, despite it having no bearing on trends in anything, much less medicine.

My first instinct was to ask her what relevance she thought there was between the two. Or how the hell she thought I could comply with a deadline that passed a week ago; time travel? But I know neither would elicit anything but silence until the next campaign. Instead, I'll simply delete it, and see if she returns at some later date.

Ideally before the next deadline. (rolleyes)

Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Research

OMFG! It's a blast from the past…the return of EmiFlo! At least I assume that this is the same Emily Flora who used to solicit on behalf of Team JPPR. I can't imagine that there are too many Emily Floras out there, even fake ones.

I have no idea whether Research Open World, the publisher of JPPR, is affiliated with gOATse—and with myriad domains and labyrinthine connections it could waste a lot of time trying to find out—or whether she's simply moved to another brothel.

Citing the same publication from 2018 that's as irrelevant to dental [something] as it is to clinical [anything], she's now spreading and satisfying for Dental and its remarkable innovations. You just can't take that level of dedication for granted these days.

Dental Research and Practice

Today must just be a dental day. No sooner had I dealt with Joseph Irving's request than Sara James took a dump in my inbox. But at least it's short and sweet, so that's something.

And there's another clue as to Sara's whereabouts—which may've been in John's missive, but I didn't pay attention to the headers. That is her time zone appears to be UTC+0530, not UTC+0000 as would be expected if she were genuinely skeeving away in London.

Oral Health and Care

This is the first time that I recall a predatory publisher explicitly admitting to a sliding scale for publication costs in a soliciting email. You might find this information on websites, if you look hard enough, and a few brazenly admit to Indian researchers receiving a cut rate (here; here; here). But the disparity in costs according to national economic rating is usually hidden.

I understand the reasoning for basing publication rates on economic circumstances, but it assumes that those circumstances apply across the board. It also effectively means that solid work from advanced countries is expected to subsidise work of dubious value from developing nations. That's not to say that all work from advanced countries is solid, and that all work from developing ones is dubious or substandard; but, nevertheless, phuquethat.

I wonder if the World Bank offers guidance on the relevance of a publication cited in a soliciting email to a journal's scope? Because my only recent experience in oral health was when brushing my teeth this morning.

Dear Claire Kelly Does the World Bank also offer guidance on the selection of publications to solicit participants? Because I’m damned if I can understand the relevance of "[irrelevant to the field of oral health]" to the field of oral health. Please advise. Sincerely,

I don't expect a reply. (rolleyes)

Claire's a smooth-talking little minx. She/we was/were impressed with my completely irrelevant work, considering it to be well-written and letting readers to get more knowledge in that field. TFFT, it was all worthwhile after all. (proud)

But she let the side down by declaring my profile to be well-suitable with the Journal scope and Classification, because it simply isn't. I suspect that Claire may be an unreliable source of information.

If I thought, for a single second, that you had the faintest idea what you were talking about, I'd ask you what it was concerning “[completely irrelevant]” that you considered to be in any way relevant to an oral health webcomic. But your only interest lies in the APC fees. Open Access Text logo, modified to goatse

Journal of Dental Research and Practice

Sara James shat into my inbox pimping yet another worthless OAT e-comic: Journal of Dental Research and Practice. Nothing in the work she cited has any relevance to its scope, but I guess that's not the point. Some people will be flattered that their work has garnered any recognition, even if it's from a two-bit Indian fuckwit who's only interested in their money. Or something like that.

It's not unlike a starry-eyed hack actor, who's finally landed a role in an off-off-off-off-off-off-Broadway production. It means nothing in reality; but to them, they've arrived.

I would ask you how “[completely irrelevant to the subject of dental research and practice]” is at all relevant to the field of dental research and practice; but I realise you have no clue, and no interest in anything other than publication charges. Open Access Text logo, modified to goatse
