The luvvies are getting restless

Hollywood's luvvies are all a'dither over the Hollywood Foreign Press Association not being diverse enough. There are no black people among its 87 voting members, and the voting members have been accused of a myriad of questionable practices. For its part, the HFPA has outlined a number of changes to make itself more inclusive, but this has not placated the righteously indignant elite.

Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo have joined the criticism of the HFPA's lack of diversity and shadowy workings; like these have somehow just come to them as a surprise. Perhaps they're just not that bright.

Ruffalo made his case, where else, but on Twitter:

"Now is the time to step up and right the wrongs of the past," he said. "Honestly, as a recent winner of a Golden Globe, I cannot feel proud or happy about being a recipient of this award."

Surely the voting members, or many of them, were present at the ceremony? Didn't the lack of diversity strike you at the time you accepted the award, Mark? You could always return it if you're that offended. Make a real statement to the HFPA, but do it privately and quietly, rather than tweeting for attention. Or is your grandstanding solely about the clout?

Meanwhile, how many of the great unwashed, we who're the entertainment industry's paying customers, really give a damn about the HFPA, the Golden Globes, or even the Academy for Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for that matter?
