Everyday thoughts, but not every day

Fist bump! Fist bump?

Apple has released iOS 14 to an expectant world, and MacRumors has the low-down on its new and improved features. These are among the highlights to be expected in the update; are you sitting comfortably?

First and foremost, iOS 14 brings a redesigned Home Screen that includes support for widgets for the first time. Widgets can be dragged from the Today view right onto the Home Screen, and can be pinned in different sizes.

First and foremost? Although this will be the most obvious visual change, I didn't realise that there was a need for it. But, okay, I guess.

A new inline replies feature can be used to reply to a specific message in a conversation, which is especially useful in group chats.

This could be a really useful feature, not just in group chats, but also when my wife or eldest daughter anyone sends multiple short messages in succession. Nice job, Apple! (thumbup)

There are new Memoji options that include additional hairstyles, headwear, face coverings, and ages, plus new Memoji stickers for hug, fist bump, and blush. Memoji are more expressive than ever thanks to revamped facial and muscle structure.

At last! My prayers for more expressive memojis have been answered! (rolleyes)

What's a memoji?

With a Picture in Picture mode, users can watch videos or talk on FaceTime while also using other apps at the same time, with FaceTime or a video playing in a small window that can be resized and relocated to any corner of the iPhone's screen.

Because people can't focus on who they're FaceTiming with? That just sounds like bad manners.

And there's more, much more, but it's too meh to even think about. So, one close-to-vital feature: inline replies. I think I'll wait until I have no choice.
