It's all gone to shit

No, no, Nancy!

Nancy Ronald is soliciting, quite literally in this instance. She claims to have read one of my published articles, and found it to be a great source of information. I'm relieved, and the editor of the accepting journal would be too, to know that Nancy approves of his decision.

Her journal ensures a high standard of quality through review by potential reviewers. Perhaps I'm being picky, but I would expect review by actual reviewers. Preferably, actual reviewers who're experts in the field of the manuscripts that they're reviewing. But that's just me, I guess.

What's in an 'e'?

EScientific Publishers' logoI was completey unaware of eScientific Publishers until today. The company seems to be curiously ambivalent as to whether the initial e is capitalised or not. Details like this don't matter when you're only in it for the scientific integrity, I guess. I'm going to stick with eScientific, for aesthetic reasons.

eScientific Publishers claims to be based in Australia and the US. The address of their Australian operation is given as Unit barrate street, Robertson Queensland 4109, Australia. This is a bit of a problem, since there's no Barrate Street in Robertson, QLD. There's a Barratt Street, which is residential, as is their US address. Their ambivalence to professionalism and detail doesn't stop there, though. Just searching for the company on Google brings up the whiff of skeevy incompetence:

EScientific Publishers on Google
Google pulls this from the home page META information: eScientific Publishers is a top and high quality open access journals . This is one of best open access journals that strictly maintain the publication standards and ethics to sustain their quality and credibility. We, as Open Access publishers, strive to offer the best in class online science publications.

In the past, I've noted that gutter publishers brag that they offer global distribution, simply through the expedience of shitting out PDF files onto the internet. But eScientific Publishers have far loftier aspirations: why settle for a mere global audience when there's the universe, just for the taking? I'm not sure how they achieve this, presumably some form of satellite transmitter arrangement. (thinking)

That aside, their mission statement is good for a laugh.

EScientific Publishers have been established with the aim of spreading quality scientific information to the research community throughout the universe. We, as Open Access publishers, EScientific Publishers heartily welcomes all the technocrats and authors who had been laying their all in to the area of their interest. It is observed that some researchers or authors have an in depth knowledge in the working field and they work hard for a long time. But they fail to exhibit their work on the world’s platform. EScientific Publishers their research work globally. In this way the author’s or the researcher’s work reaches to the targeted audience. We encourage the open-access platform strongly to offer unhindered access to the papers published through our journals. EScientific Publishers holds very efficient and eminent subject expertises as Editorial structure to regulate the multi-level peer review procedure. EScientific Publishers is the scientific and research solution for scientists, researchers, students in the fields of biomedical, medical, pharmaceutical, engineering, technology, chemical sciences and physical sciences. You never know which article might inspire your next research project and give the world a new discovery or the cure to a disease!

eScientific Publishers, About Us

You never know, indeed. But I'm willing to wager that it'll never be found on escientificpublishers.com. (pipe)

Sixteen months may or may not be a long time in publishing, it depends on what you're publishing I guess. But sixteen months it's been since I last heard from Nancy Ronald. This is the kind of ho I appreciate, one who rarely plops into my inbox. I appreciate those almost as much as the ones who never plop into my inbox.

This is another case of the headers language settings being betrayed by the message body: <body lang="EN-IN"…>. And the message landed in my inbox at 03:34 this morning. So, yeah, Nancy Ronald, Ronald Nancy, Naina Rongmei, or whateverthehell she's called, is spamming me from the Indian subcontinent.

I could try to elicit a response, in an effort to betray her local mail server settings, rather than the campaign server. But, since she has included no tracking image—I opened her message in view source mode first anyway—I don't want to betray to her that she has a live one here.

Once a year is more than often enough.
