Another of those I know how it is

It's always annoyed me when people pronounce behemoth as /bəˈhiːmɒθ/ (buh·hee·moth
), because I've always pronounced it correctly, /bɛmːmɒθ/ (bem·moth
). Except that they were right, and I was wrong.
Still, I prefer it my way, so I'll take incorrectitude in place of self-improvement in this instance.
Although penchant
is /ˈpɒ̃ʃɒ̃/ (pon·shon
), not /ˈpɛn·tʃɛnt/(pen·chent
). And niche
is /ˈniːʃ/ (neesh
), not /ˈnɪtʃ/ (nitch
). Yes, I know…
…both pronunciations of niche
are correct. But nitch
just sounds wrong to me.
