Will this madness never end?

Big Bird in space

What if Big Bird Exploded in the Challenger Distaster? Not wishing to trivialise a tragedy, but this is a tempting thought nonetheless: What if Big Bird Exploded in the Challenger Disaster? It's a question posed as a delayed April Fool's joke by AlternateHistoryHub.

It seems a strange question to ask, even for April Fool's, until you realise that someone at NASA had actually considered sending birdbrain aloft. I guess some people just have too much time on their hands. (hmmm)

For his part, AHH concludes that Big Bird wouldn't have died in the disaster on 28.01.1986, because reasons. But one that he overlooked is that of intelligence. Y'see, a candidate for the astronaut programme has to pass aptitude tests, including not being a dumbfuck. And Big Bird is a dumbfuck, so he would never have been accepted onto the programme in the first place.

I never watched Sesame Street, as it wasn't shown in Britain during my formative years. Probably just as well, really. But I did see a clip a few years ago. In it, Big Bird asks a kid What language do we speak in America?, then follows that up with That's right, American!

Apparently, Sesame Street is, among other things, an edumakayshunal programme. (whatever)
