Getting their knickers in a twist

Mariko Oi reports, on behalf of BBC News, that three Russian states—Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan—will ban the sale of synthetic underwear. Video footage apparently shows a woman being arrested for demanding the right to wear lace knickers.

But the ban is apparently on underwear containing less than 6% cotton. And lace is, or at least can be, made from cotton. So lace knickers will be acceptable as long as they're not totally synthetic. Which is a relief for us all; and we can go back to worrying about less weighty issues, such as global warming; economic depression; international terrorism; and reality TV.
