Bitches bitch'n'

Just send anything!
(Herald Open Access)

Things must be getting desperate at Herald Scholarly Open Access. Kaitlyn Carl is following up on her previous request, which I honestly don't recall, for any submission to be published in Journal of Reproductive Medicine, Gynaecology & Obstetrics. The journal has an impact factor of 1.36*, apparently. I don't know what the asterisk means, she doesn't say.*

I've never really paid any heed to the impact factors claimed by garbage publishers for their journals. They're either fictional or irrelevant. But I recently read that some journals are passing off dubious impact factors as reputable.

I don't think that's what HSOA and JRMGO are doing, though. They openly explain their impact factor derivation. (confused)

Impact Factor for Journal: 1.36* *2019 Journal Impact Factor was established by dividing the number of articles published in 2018 and 2017 with the number of times they are cited in 2018 and 2017 based on Google Scholar Citation Index database. If 'X' is the total number of articles published in 2018 and 2017, and 'Y' is the number of times these articles were cited in indexed journals during 2018 and 2017 then, journal impact factor = Y/X

Journal of Reproductive Medicine, Gynaecology, and Obstetrics, Herald Scholarly Open Access

The problem is that I just don't understand it, or the derivation of accepted impact factors, enough to have faith in its relevance. Nor do I know how well the Google Scholar Citation Index is curated for reliability. But at least it's open, if not honest or particularly useful.

* It's explained on the journal's home page, as quoted above.

A year and a half has passed, and Kaitlyn—or Carl, but I'm going to assume Kaitlyn—has returned with exactly the same shtick as before: resending an earlier email that never actually existed, otherwise her new email address would already be in my spammers list; a seemingly desperate request for any type of article; a deadline that's a deadline, but not a real deadline because it's flexible; and ambivalence as to whether her webcomic's title is Gynaecology or Gynecology. At least the bitch is consistent.

But that mysterious impact factor has increased by 0.08, so she must be doing something right.

Journal of Alternative, Complementary & Integrative Medicine

It's been a while since I last heard from Herald Open Access, and now Emma Lynch reaches out to break the blessed silence. The bitch.

Still, at least she's impressed enough with my profile and previous work to consider me an exact fit for her auspicious webcomic Journal of Alternative, Complementary & Integrative Medicine. If she thinks she's seen my profile picture she's confused me with someone very different, because I wouldn't be seen dead in a kaftan. (shrug)
