I think I've pissed myself

Lost magic

Asian music heavily influenced Debussy, and Debussy heavily influenced me. So the music goes around the world and comes full circle.

Ryuichi Sakamoto

cover of Forbidden Colours singleI was saddened to read of the passing of Japanese musician and actor Ryuichi Sakamoto. With YMO, he pioneered electronic music that sounded warmer, more human, and less industrial than Kraftwerk.

Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, in which he appeared alongside David Bowie, Takeshi Kitano, and Tom Conti, is a classic. It remains incredibly powerful to this day.

I played its theme, Forbidden Colours, co-written and performed with David Sylvian, to death at the time. And it never fails to move me, even now. Absolutely brilliant. Was it really forty years ago?

RIP, Sakamotosan (verysad)
