This is my truth

Track 'n' trace
(Gavin Publishers)

Yet another rent boy expecting me to submit an article to a journal in a field about which I know nothing. This time it's complementary and alternative medicine, which I only associate with nutters, chanting, incense, and kaftans.

James' message is devoid of image tag trackers in the HTML code, and there's no verify-live unsubscribe link. The journal title, however, is a link, but not directly to the journal's home page. Instead, it's a Bitly redirect. There's absolutely no reason to do this in HTML, short-form URL links are only advantageous when using plain text. One explanation is that this is the tracker.

Current Research in Complementary & Alternative Medicine is another journal that claims an unexplained impact factor. This time, it's not even explained on the journal's home page.

Current Research in Complementary & Alternative Medicine (ISSN: 2577-2201) Impact Factor: 1.25* Dear Doctor, Glad to connect. Current Research in Complementary & Alternative Medicine journal would like to take this opportunity to invite experts like you for the submission of a manuscript in the upcoming issue of our journal. All types of manuscripts are welcome for possible publication in this issue. Let me know your possibility as we are expecting a positive reply from your side. Thank you for your attention. We look forward to a strong and productive scientific relationship with you. Let me know for any further queries. With regards, James Parker Editorial Office

Gavin Publishers, About Us

I don't believe that a native Anglophone or a competent copy editor, in either the USA or Australia, went anywhere near this. As to being an international publisher, that means nothing when all you do is shit electronic diarrhoea out onto an inherently global platform.

I don't consider myself an esteemed expert in my field, let alone his; his field being spamming innocent schmucks for cheap profits. As for complementary and alternative medicine, what I know about it could best be described as…not very complimentary.

Anyhow, Jim returns to remind me of his previous invitations, whereas in reality the last one was over a year ago. He assures me that the manuscript review process runs quickly, culminating in publication within 15 days from the date of submission. Note, he doesn't specify peer review—the review of one's work by one's peers—so this review could be limited to a quick once-over by the office cleaner. Because two weeks seems pretty quick for a proper scientific review.

Almost two months have passed, and I'd completely forgotten about Jimbo. Unfortunately, he's taken it upon himself to remind me.

Less than a week has passed, and Jim feels the need to reintroduce himself with a friendly reminder. Admittedly, I do tend to forget him, but that's only because he's irrelevant.

Time to try that unsubscribe link.

Hematological Diseases and Therapies

The mysteriously-named Emiko recognises my expertise in the field, and this time it's the field of haematological diseases and therapies. My contribution of any type of article will be of major importance to her, and help her webcomic to establish high standards. Apparently.

Moreover, she strongly believes that it will bring some momentum to solicit the articles in 2024. And thats exactly what I'm afraid of, more solicitations from low-rent trollops like Emiko.

(Journal of) Obstetrics and Gynecology

Mariana Taylor variously introduces her webcomic as Obstetrics and Gynecology and Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, although its website errs towards the former. Incidentally, I didn't click any of the links to find it, instead I searched on the ISSN to discover that this is another Gavin Journals comic.

The [cough] publisher—for want of a better word—seems to have abandoned the papersubmissions.com domain for spamming victims on its shitlist in favour of researchpapper.com [sic]. But each submission undergoes rigorous peer review a fast track and quick review of as long as six days…or until your payment clears.
