The drains have backed up again

Are you new here?

Adobe must be blowing the cobwebs out of their Support Community, for I've just been notified that I have a new rank. Apparently, thanks to my contributions to the community, I'm now new around them there parts.

What's poignant about this revelation is that, although I joined in January 2002—and I was very active for over a decade—my last visit was three years' ago. So, while I'm not exactly an active member of the community, I'm hardly new here either. (confused)

Other than Acrobat Reader, I stopped using Adobe softare when they moved from a licence purchase model to a subscription model, sometime around 2013-ish. Since then, I've found alternatives to the Creative Suite applications that I used before. I'm now only waiting for Apple to upgrade Preview to a Reader-killer, so that I can entirely rid my computers of Adobe software.

So, thank you my Adobe Support Community Team, your gratitude is truly gratifying, albeit unexpected. I've no idea why I visited as recently as 2019, but I can't imagine that I'll return. Nevertheless, I look forward to receiving news of my next new rank…Dearly Departed.

You just received a new rank! Congratulations nickname5000! As the result of your contributions to the community, you have earned a new rank. Your new rank is New Here . We appreciate your efforts and hope you will continue to be an active member of the community. Thanks for being an Adobe Support Community member. Your Adobe Support Community Team

Okay, so it's not hilarious, but there was something about a new rank of new here that made me laugh.

My antipathy towards Adobe was not limited to the change in pricing model. Their obsession with enforcing their own Windows/Mac unified UI sucked too.

In contrast to the support community team's appreciation of my contributions, Adobe's corporate arm can't wait to push me out the door—in German, because why not? It appears that I last signed in to my account over a year ago, and my ID will expire and be closed in 90 days if I don't sign in before then.

Oh well, as Oscar Wilde might've said: if this is the way Adobe treats their active members of the community, they don't deserve to have any!
