I think I've soiled myself

Laundered

Much has been made of the media attention paid to the disappearance and murder of Gabby Petito, compared to that for black women. The BBC has to mention it every time they report on the story—except this time, naturally!—like some tic or idée fixe.

But, with the news that the body of Brian Laundrie—her fiancé and presumed attacker—has been found, I couldn't help but wonder about the pronunciation of his surname: is it /ˈlaʊndri/ (l·ow·ndry), or /ˈlɔːndri/ (l·or·ndry)? Probably the former, otherwise he could've made a clean getaway.

BA-BOOM-TSCH!

Personally, I think that one aspect that drew wider attention to Petito's case was that she maintained a high-profile social media account. I guess that if more black women also maintained similarly high-profile social media accounts, people would be more likely to notice when they disappear. (shrug)
