This is my truth

The Motherland

Llívia is a small Spanish Catalan enclave within France. It was created in the seventeenth century, through a stunning act of pedantry on the part of the Spanish.

When the Franco-Spanish war ended in 1659, with the Treaty of the Pyrenees, all villages north of the peak line were ceded to France, as part of the agreement. But the Spanish pointed out that Llívia was a town, and therefore exempt. So they kept it. Marvellous!

This has to be the pedants' Mecca! I'd fit right in. And all that I have to do is learn Catalan. (nosmile)
