US informal a vaccine or vaccination: the flu vax.

Vaccination was rarely discussed widely online before the pandemic. It's just not one of those subjects for most people.

So, I hadn't encountered the alternative spelling, vax(x), before the advent of the Chongvax and its associated controversies. But it apparently dates back to the '90s. Clearly, I lead a sheltered life.

Some spellings have just one x, others have two. Whenever I use it, I spell it like tax, and that also seems to be the dictionary-accepted form.

Fans of Xander Cage might use vaxXx though. Hey, it's an informal abbreviation, so anything goes. (shrug)
