This is my truth

The passive aggression of airports

I was at Zürich Airport recently, and an old blast from the late '70s came over the speakers: Airport by The Motors. I loved that song at the time, and it's still not terrible over forty years later. Although I wouldn't add it to my Spotify playlist; if I had one.

But as I was listening to the lyrics, I figured that Todd in the Shadows would have something to say about them. Not least of the chorus:

Airport Airport, you've got a smiling face You took the one I love so far away Fly her away, fly her away Airport Airport, you've got a smiling face You took my lady to another place Fly her away, fly her away

I wouldn't say the airport flew her away, so much as facilitated the transaction. Nevertheless, it's clear that whoever added this to the ZRH rotation has quite the sense of humour.

Equally clearly, Andy McMaster wasn't thinking of Brussels or Frankfurt airports when he wrote the song. Or Berlin, for that matter.

None of them could be accused of having a smiling face. (nosmile)

Misheard lyrics

I've cited the lyrics from Musixmatch, and I'm going to assume that they're correct. So the lyrics as I understood them at the time, specifically Flyer away, flyer away are wronger than a Starbucks' Caramel Frappuccino. This is flyer away as in something that flies someone/something else away. Admittedly, it makes less sense but, not for the first time, I think it's more poetic.

Although, the less said about my misheard lyrics for Human League's Don't You Want me?, the better. (embarrassed)
