India has introduced a new symbol for its currency, the rupee.

This is different to the symbol used by other countries that use a rupee,* just to cause confusion to make it stand clear from the clutter of currencies that call themselves rupee or the rupiah. Until they also change, that is.

But it is prettier, in a looks-suspiciously-like-the-euro-symbol kind of way! I think designers use the phrase design cues, as a coy reference to copying that isn't…umm…copying.
