All's not what it seems

Emojional unintelligence (clown)

A coalition of Germany’s regional broadcasters has released a list of extreme right wing emojis, use of which on social media can be used to identify you as a fascist pig. These include a student raising their hand, as a nazi salute; an okay symbol alongside a glass of milk, for white supremacy; a clown face, as comment on non-extreme right-wing politics; and a red cross, in place of a swastika. I shit you not: (cross) = (swastika)(whatever)

They have a sense of humour, or of the ridiculous, I'll give them that. But, since gesture emojis often allow you to change skin colour, is the glass of milk really necessary to define the whiteness of the supremacy? (confused) (okay)

Needless to say, it's been derided on teh soshull meejah, with at least one Instagram user questioning the maturity of the sad sacks behind it: Wie alt ist eure Social Media Abteilung eigentlich ?

man raising one hand emoji with added toothbrush moustacheLest you think otherwise, dear reader, I created the swastika emoji solely for this post; just to take the piss out of ARD. I can't promise that I won't use it again though. (devil)

I'm sure it's just an unfortunate coincidence that the palest-skinned version of the emoji for a man raising one hand, at least in Apple's interpretation, has black hair swept to one side.
