All's not what it seems

Ironic alcoholic

SL Pharmacology and Toxicology, a garbage-level publication shat out onto the interwebz by Scientific Literature Journals, is planning a special edition to be entitled Alcohol Toxicity:

Greetings! At first, I feel happy if you could spare a few minutes to go through this email. We are planning to publish a special edition on "Alcohol Toxicity" in our upcoming "SL Pharmacology and Toxicology". This open-access journal will provide a creative platform to faculty, students, research scholars & professionals working in the areas of the medical field and to publish their research work, new findings and innovative ideas. We will be glad if you can kindly submit 2-3 pages of the article (Research, mini-review, short communication, case report, letter to the editor, opinion article, protocol, etc.,) on your ongoing works, interesting topic and previously published articles. Note: Articles submitted on or before 21st May'2021 are published with a 50% discount on publication charges. Waiting for your Rapid submissions. Best Regards, Stella Joseph

By pure happenstance, when I received this message I was in the midst of an experiment on alcohol toxicity in humans. Or, rather, human. (cocktail)

When I've finished, I might just send Stella a suitable reply based on my findings at the time.

One 's' or two?

I have never read SL Pharmacology and Toxicology, nor any of Scientific Literature Journals' other offerings. So, how do I know that they're garbage? Let's just call it a hunch, but I'm just leaving this here for laughs:

Scientific Literature, About Us

Strangely enough, Stella's return email address is pharmacology@scientificsliterature.net—with that middle s, the illiteracy of which pisses me right off. Yet, according to the journal home page, the editorial address is pharmacology@scientificliterature.org. I'm noting both here solely for the benefit of the email scrapers. Although the editorial address is not obfuscated on the site, I do believe that every little helps.

I was bothered by the difference between the return email address in Stella's message and the editorial address on the SL Pharmacology and Toxicology home page, not least because they use different domains. So I shot a reply, under the pretext of budgetary planning:

Dear Stella Joseph I am deeply honoured that you have considered my work to be worthy of inclusion in your esteemed journal. I note that articles submitted before 21 May are granted a very generous discount. But I have to get approval from my management, so could you please indicate what the charges will be? With very best wishes for our future collaboration,

I fully expected a delivery failure response, but no!

Thanks for the quick response. We will be much honoured to have your valuable participation in our journal. The journal's actual charge is 1520USD. Articles submitted before the given deadline are published with a 50% of discount. Kindly let us know your potential response. Come back to us for more information. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. With kind regards Stella Joseph

One thousand five hundred and twenty dollars!? Bloody hell! I could enjoy the services of a high-class hooker for less, although getting management to approve my expenses might be a challenge. The journal's library—in which accepted articles are permanently archived in the journal website—must be really impressive at that rate.

error message showing that site is unaccessible
The domain had expired during the short period of time since my previous visit. Would you trust this as a permanent archive?

Perhaps this shit was just thrown together by someone while under the influence of their own alcohol toxicity?
