Verbing

I was musing on people turning non-verbs into verbs.

What set this off was discovering that Kourtney Kardashian—a family member of whom I'd been blissfully ignorant beforehand—has a lifestyle website, called Poosh. Because, why not? Poosh runs a sponsor placement programme festival, Poosh Your Wellness, which asks registrants to Poosh your information (submit their email address).

cover to The Jam's Town Called MaliceThere may be better examples of verbing—there may even be a better term for it—but this is the one that set me thinking. And then it occurred to me that anyone who's going woke, or doing something woke, is woking.

Woking is a town hole to the southwest of London. It's part of the London commuter belt. But it's better known as the setting for the Martian landing in H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds, and as Paul Weller's inspiration for Town Called Malice.

I thought you'd like to know, gentle reader. You can thank me later.
