BBC headline: “Trudeau calls praise for Nazi-linked veteran 'deeply embarrassing'”

While Germany elevates minor actors to war criminal status, so as to hunt them down and try them before their actions—or lack thereof—are weighed in the balance of a higher court, Canada takes a refreshingly liberal approach to its own Nazis by inviting them to attend parliament.

Yaroslav Hunka, 98, got a standing ovation after House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota called him a "hero" during a Friday visit by Ukraine's president.

Ukrainian Mr Hunka fought for Germany as part of a Waffen-SS division, which is nice. Volodymyr Zelensky, who was there to address Canada's parliament, is Jewish. Ooops!

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the incident was extremely upsetting. Mind you, the poor lamb always looks like he's on the brink of tears anyway. (snowflake)

Disclaimer: I know nothing of Mr Hunka's leanings or beliefs, either then or now. Fighting on the side of Germany against the Soviet Union didn't necessarily make the Ukrainian volunteers Nazi sympathisers per se, any more than simply having a my enemy's enemy common cause.
