The name of the game

BBC home page: “Fifa's name change to EA Sports FC is a big gamble”
BBC home page. Both the video game and Fédération Internationale de Football Association are FIFA, not Fifa.

On viewing this lead on the BBC's home page, my first thought was to why FIFA(exclamation) would change its name to that of a video game,* especially if it represents a big gamble. The production company must be offering a megashit-tonne of money for the promotion.

More prosaically, it's the game's name that's changing, because FIFA wants a megashit-tonne of money to licence its name. How drear.

The latest iteration of the game will include female players for the first time. According to former England and Arsenal striker Kelly Smith: For women to be playing alongside men, for young kids to see females in the game, it's what we've needed for some time.

So now I'm even more confused than I was earlier. Are the women playing against the men, or in their own tournament? And, if they're playing in the same tournament as the men, is this because they're actually men who identify as women, and who can't play nicely with real women; or are they real women who're willing to get their sorry arses whopped, and handed back to them with a crushing defeat?

* Yes, I really did think that. (SMH)

In my defence, though, I've never played the game, and I have no interest in it, so I have no idea what it's called.
