Barbie girl

publicity shot of Amy Schumer
Upsize: Come on Ken, let's go buffet!

With the impending release of Margot Robbie's latest cinematic dud, Barbie, comes the revelation that Amy Schumer was originally cast in the titular role. She eventually exited the project, because the script didn't feel feminist and cool enough.

Scaled to real life, Barbie is a size 6/8. Amy Schumer is…not. And this fanciful concession to body positivity wasn't feminist enough for her? Well, okay then. (whatever)

Rumours that the real reason for her departure was because audiences couldn't relate to her as a comedy lead have only just occurred to me, and start here…now!

So Barbie outperformed against expectations on its opening weekend, breaking Margot Robbie's run of box office bombs, and proving most people don't share my distaste for her wild-eyed, inanely-grinning, manic overacting. It takes all sorts. (shrug)
