I'm No. 1
For the first time in 90 years, General Motors is not the highest-selling car manufacturer in the US, the number one place in 2021 being taken by Toyota. Toyota were humble in victory, while GM were bullish in defeat.
Toyota is not boasting about the accomplishment. Senior Vice President Jack Hollis said the automaker is "grateful" for its loyal customers, but "being No. 1 is never a focus or priority."

Looking forward to future sales growth and profitability, GM spokesman Jim Cain was sanguine.
"I wouldn't rush out if I were (Toyota), and get a 'We're No. 1' tattoo," he said.
