What's that smell?

Leap of no faith

I'd never heard of Bed Bath & Beyond, a US domestic retail chain, until criminal lawyer Bruce Rivers posted his reaction to the company's CFO's suicide by autodefenestration. Gustavo Arnal, who faced investigation for financial irregularities, fell from his 18th-floor Manhattan apartment last Friday.

When something like this happens, it is tragic. And it's kind of selfish, when you think about it, because the person's trying to end their pain. But he really doesn't end their pain, because it just goes on his wife and children.

It's also selfish of him because he leapt to his death during lunchtime, and would've killed innocent passers-by if he'd hit them from that height. The bastard could at least have waited until the hoi polloi had returned to their offices. (angry)

Rivers' comment might seem nonsensical, because of course Arnal ended his pain, on this temporal plane at least; that of his family is different. But I'm cutting him some slack; his wife also committed suicide, so he has an altogether more personal take on the situation.
