Will this madness never end?

Parental approval

A US woman has become the first parent to be convicted of involuntary manslaughter, for failing to intervene and prevent her then fifteen-year-old son from committing a deadly school shooting in 2021. She and her husband, who is to be tried separately, gave him a gun, while at the same time recognising his mental ill-health.

Stephen J Morse, a professor of law and psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania, said he disagreed with the verdict, arguing that because Ethan Crumbley had pleaded guilty, he was the only one responsible for the shooting.

I'm no professor of law and psychiatry anywhere, but I think he's wrong. One actor's admission of guilt does not absolve others from theirs, otherwise there'd be no such thing as an accessory to crime, for example. This man is clearly a buffoon.

And, fortunately, the jury also saw things differently to the nutty professor.

Perhaps this will persuade other parents to be less lackadaisical when it comes to their children's access to firearms. I doubt the NRA's happy about it though.
