The BBC doesn't appear to have too much inclination for possessive terms. Perhaps the concept of ownership is too much for the comrades at the People's Republic of Portland Place. (shrug)
I have, in the past, mithered on about the BBC's editorial disdain for national and regional adjectives. These must be difficult for the team, because they complicate spelling. Not only are letters added, but oftentimes others are removed!
But adding an apostrophe and s
to denote possession shouldn't be too hard, should it? It's not as if there are many variations on the theme, after all. Or so you'd think.
The home page announces: LA agrees to pay Kobe Bryant widow almost $29m. That's annoying, because there's plenty of space for the dropped 's
. Perhaps the BBC just didn't want to imply that Bryant possessed his wife on the home page. After all, it's not very right-on

Ne'ermind, there's always the article itself. Oh dear, what's wrong with that headline?
