Robocop

The San Francisco Police Department is set to deploy robots armed with explosives in the pacification of violent, armed, or dangerous subjects, which could amount to most criminals in the land of the free-to-bear-arms. This is not a new development, however.

In 2016, police in Dallas, Texas, used a robot armed with C-4 explosive to kill a sniper who had killed two officers and injured several more.

Our fearless San Franciscan correspondents got this information from a CNN report on the use of the robot. But either they don't do reading, or they don't do sums.

By the time the chief gave the go ahead, at least two officers had already been killed, and several more gravely wounded. Three more would later die from their injuries.

I freely admit to not being a mathematician—so I fully expect to be invited to submit my research to the Global Journal of Addition and Subtraction, or to attend Hard Sums 2023 as an honoured speaker anytime soon—but I'd hazard a guess that at least two dead, plus three dying later, brings the total killed to more than two. Just sayin'.

Admittedly, at the time the police's decision to deploy was made, the death toll was at least two. But that was six years ago, and six years later our dynamic duo could've been more accurate and respectful in their historical reporting. Nevertheless, what a snarky arse I am.
